Backblast #085 – Persistence

YHC knew it was going to be colder and that the wind was going to be a factor. Arriving early to the AO, I took a quick loop and then ran around the downtown area looking for a better – less windy – option for this morning’s workout. No dice, the wind was everywhere…so Calder Plaza it was.

AO – Calder Plaza

27 degrees | 64% humidity | Winds 15 mph

The Thang

Prior to beginning The Thang, YHC read a quote about persistence:

“If you’re going through hell, keep going” – Winston Churchhill

A large square was created using four cones. At the third cone, coupons and a sandbag were placed. PAX were directed to the following:

1st cone – 20 merkins
2nd cone – 20 squats
2 Burpees between cone 2 & 3
3rd cone – 20 rows (with coupon or sandbag)
4th cone – 20 flutter kicks (on a four count)
2 Burpees between cone 4 & 1

After each round, the number of reps were lowered by two. So, the second round consisted of 18 merkins, squats, rows, flutter kicks. The number of burpees stayed the same. PAX would continue the exercise until they hit zero.

All told, the PAX completed 110 of each exercise as well as 40 burpees. That’s not counting the Warm-O-Rama

Leaders Message:

Great leaders are persistent. They persevere through trials and develop the ability to weather tough storms. Calvin Coolidge, 30th US President, states:

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Lord, I thank you for the trials you have given us. Your word says that “blessed is the man who perseveres under trial”.  I declare that today, we have the Victory! In Jesus name, Amen!
