Preblast: Pax were given the workout ahead of time – run a mile, climb a flight, wash/rinse/repeat as many times as possible in 40-45 minutes. Pax were also asked to set goals for themselves in the pre-blast thread.
Pax: Kraut, Archie Bunker, Mad Cow, BasicBro, Forrest, Gravy, Snoop, Hasselhof, Toto, Hank the Tank, Cuddle Buddy, Hoffa, Splitter, Ketchup, QIC Bald Eagle
Once again the number of pax and temperature were very similar. Depending on the thermometer or app used the clear night gave us readings in the upper teens with relatively clear pavement.
My intent with this Q was to get out of the way and let work happen in an OYO/Together sort of way. After a mangled disclaimer and 5 core principles done while stretching, the pax were told the thang had began at 5:31 exactly and to get moving.
The pax crossed the road and headed to the turn-around point 1/2 mile up the road. Each pax went at his own pace, and the 6 ruckers ended up pairing up for the movement.
All told, 48 miles were run/rucked, and nearly that many flights of stairs were completed as well by the 15 pax.
A few observations at the end of the workout:
- Only 1 pax exceeded his goal. Lesson: It’s easier to write things online than to do them in person.
- Nearly all pax came close to their goals. Goals are worth setting and make them aspirational and challenging.
- The Thang was given the night before which allowed the 45 minutes to be maximized. Lesson: Get out of your own way, and be as clear as possible.
- Ruckers stuck together. While all the runners went solo for most of the workout, the ruckers ended up moving in pairs. Lesson: Battle buddies are good for sharing pain and pushing each other.
In the CoT Ketchup shared appreciation for all who had been praying and thinking of his son as he required surgery (less than 3 mos old), and requested prayer for his grandmother who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
